Created by the followers of Xenos soon after the Dorian Empire dissolved, Xenodoria is located in a deep valley surrounded on all sides by steep mountain peaks. The mountain range protects the country from invasion, but also tends to isolate its people from outside news and trade.
Industries
Aside from the usual forestry and mining of the rugged terrain, there is another substantial industry in Xenodoria, religion. The military in particular is highly religious and crusader is in effect, a highly profitable profession. An enormous part of the economy is centred around the church and its holdings and dealings.
Life and Society
A theocracy of almost xenophobic isolationism, the people tend to be quite suspicious of strangers, and arcane magic is strictly forbidden. Divine magic is monopolized by the Church of Xenos, and other religions are suppressed, even those of other good-aligned deities. Relations with its neighbours have never been good, and even Athaeria has difficulty conducting meaningful diplomacy with the country.
Government and Politics
High Priest Fokner Oligratius (LE male half-elf, aristocrat 2/cleric 12) currently holds the highest office in Xenodoria, although internal power struggles suggest he won’t hold power much longer than his predecessor.
Power Groups
Militarily, the landlocked country has no sea navy or sky navy to speak of. It relies heavily on its sizable army of devout templars and fanatics, augmented by the spell casting power of its powerful clerics. The army is defensively oriented, and focused around mountain top fortresses that surround Xenodoria. Zhakhustra has been repeatedly rebuffed by these defenses and yet Xenodoria refuses to form an alliance with Athaeria against them.
More frustrating perhaps is that the Church of Xenos occasionally launches crusades against perceived evil nations that raze a lot of territory, but they never bother to stick around their newly captured or, as they call it “purified” territory, leaving it subsequently up for grabs by nearby opportunistic nations, not that there’s usually much left to take.
Religion
Though Xenos was said to be a prophet of Bahamut, his followers seem more obsessed with worshiping the memory of Xenos.
Major Settlements / Important Sites
Xenith: The holy city of Xenith, said to be the last known whereabouts of the prophet Xenos before he disappeared, has become a place of homage. Built atop a cliff, the city is would be intimidating for would-be conquers even without the hordes of fanatical religious devotees.
Adventuring In Xenodoria
The people here take their religion seriously. Never, ever say anything bad about Xenos, or risk immediate dismemberment. If, as is likely, you serve another god, or none at all, keep that to yourself. Also be forewarned that the public display of arcane magic can and will get you burned at the stake.
Xenodorians have an almost paranoid fear of the outside, and outsiders are almost always viewed with suspicion.
