Magic Items

The following is a catalogue of unique and interesting magical arms and devices that have been encountered or are rumoured to exist in Calbion.

Magic Weapons

Blast Spear: This weapon resembles a hollow tube with a split spear tip at one end, and a perpendicular grip three quarters of the way to the other end. This peculiar configuration conceals a specially modified crossbow mechanism that launches sling bullets. Functionally speaking, it can be used in melee as a +1 spear, or as a light crossbow that deals 1d6+1 damage. This infantry weapon is generally held only by select soldiers of Granditore’s Imperial Technical Regiment, and is most often used with ammunition possessing the Explosive property. It requires an exotic weapon proficiency feat to use properly. Unfortunately, this feat is not currently attainable outside of the exclusive training of the Imperial Technicals, and even many of them don’t have it. Firing the crossbow element provokes an attack of opportunity.

Faint evocation; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, magic stone; Price: 4,802 gp; Cost: 2,401 gp + 192 XP.

Fire Lance: Despite its name this weapon actually more resembles a long hollow tube with a split spear tip at one end, and a perpendicular grip three quarters of the way to the other end. This peculiar configuration conceals a specially modified magic device built into it that shoots a projectile of focused fire when activated. Functionally speaking, it is a +1 spear that can be used as a wand of Kelgore’s Fire Bolt. This weapon is generally held only by specialists in Granditore’s Imperial Technical Regiment or the Caliph’s elite Janissaries, and requires an exotic weapon proficiency feat to use properly. Unfortunately, this feat is not currently attainable outside of the exclusive training of the Imperial Technicals, and even many of them don’t have it. Firing the wand element provokes an attack of opportunity.

Moderate evocation; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Kelgore’s Fire Bolt; Price: 4,802 gp; Cost: 2,401 gp + 192 XP.

Storm Lance: The weapon of choice of the elite Storm Knights. An ornate +1 shock adamantine lance that glistens blue when touched by rain, initiating the charging action with this item while mounted causes the wielder to be affected as by the haste spell for 5 rounds.

Moderate evocation and transmutation; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, haste and call lightning or lightning bolt; Price: 23,310 gp; Cost: 11,655 gp + 932 XP.

Wondrous Items

Blessed Chime of St. Aylia: A specially enchanted hollow crystal of pacificite, often attached to a thread and worn as a pendant. It grants the wearer a +1 deflection bonus to AC and +1 resistance bonus to saves. When broken, the crystal shatters into a fine mist, and functions as the spell Resurrection if the person touched by the dust is dead, or the spell Heal if the person is alive. The chime is said to always break just before it’s wearer is about to die. If worn by anything of evil alignment, the chime instantly shatters without effect.

Strong conjuration: CL 13th: Craft Wondrous Item, heal and resurrection, creator must be good alignment; Price: 24,550 gp.

Chaos Dice: A seemingly normal looking pair of six-sided dice that one would use for tabletop games or gambling. In fact the creation of mischievous gods, these dice are said to bring great misfortune or luck, depending on who’s telling the story. Once per day, choose a target, then roll a two d6s and apply the following spell to the target based on the number rolled:

  • 2: Destruction
  • 3: Doom
  • 4: Confusion
  • 5: Chaos Hammer
  • 6: Ethereal Jaunt
  • 7: Polymorph
  • 8: Enlarge Person
  • 9: Divine Power
  • 10: Cloak of Chaos
  • 11: Phase Shift
  • 12: Meteor Swarm

Strong conjuration: CL 20th: Craft Wondrous Item, all previously listed spells, creator must be chaotic alignment; Price: 100,000 gp.

Locket Of Second Chances: At first glance this item appears to be a finely crafted pendant, which opens to reveal a small time keeping device, said to be called a “watch”. With the right spell triggers however, this locket has the power to manipulate the very fabric of time. Once per day as a supernatural ability, it’s wearer may re-roll any roll made, even after learning of the results of the roll.

Furthermore, the item has three charges, which can be expended to move the entire party backwards in time exactly one day, causing them to wake from their last time of resting as though the days events were merely a dream. This is very useful if, for instance, a party is in the midst of a losing battle, this would allow for them to return to before the battle and perhaps avoid that battle, or make necessary preparations for victory.

Once all charges are used up, this item stops working until recharged, and may even disappear suddenly.

Strong conjuration: CL 15th: Craft Wondrous Item, teleport or plane shift, creator must have at least 12 ranks in both Knowledge (arcane) and Knowledge (the planes); Price: 50,000 gp.

Mirror of Darkness: This finely crafted 6 ft by 2 ft mirror with golden dragon motifs along the oval rim is not what it appears to be. Unlike a normal mirror which reflections light, this mirror reflections darkness. When an intelligent creature looks to see their reflection in the mirror, they will instead see their worst nightmare come to life and enter the real world from the mirror. This functions exactly as the spell phantasmal killer.

Moderate illusion: CL 9th: Craft Wondrous Item, phantasmal killer; Price: 10,000 gp.
