Gods Of Whim

The Pantheon of the Gods of Whim

While some gods like Aeon and Solace adhere to the alignments of Law, others are more Chaotic. These gods are often not actually divine beings, but simply extraordinarily powerful beings such as the race of Whims.

Whims are essentially beings of Cosmic origin, possessing the ability to manipulate the very fabric of reality with their minds. They cannot however, control people’s minds, only physical matter. Nonetheless, this power is exceedingly useful. Whims have the capacity to manipulate even their own physical form, and change their appearance at will. Often, they will take the form of the mortal races they encounter, and their true form is largely unknown because of this. Whims can also procreate with any mortal species, however this is considered exceedingly rare, as such offspring are often a threat to their dominions.

Historically, Whims tend to be loners, as the presence of multiple Whims often leads to cataclysmic contests of power that lead worlds destroyed. Occasionally likeminded Whims have formed alliances, such as the Pantheon of Xan. These are often more benevolent Whims who desire to help lesser species, or are willing to tolerate them in exchange for service. More malevolent Whims are known to wander the cosmos, destroying worlds and devouring the remnants over centuries slowly to sustain themselves.

The Whim known as Lord Greyvald of the Sky arrived on Earth’s sister world of Asaria and proceeded to declare sovereignty over it. The empires and nations of Asaria mostly resisted, but were defeated by Greyvald and his growing armies of followers. Eventually Asaria was conquered. The whimsical Greyvald, bored of his lasted escapade, left in search of another world to conquer. Ironically, though Greyvald is haughty and jokes about abandoning his newly conquered world because governing is no fun, he is actually one of the more benevolent Whims, usually making sure to leave the worlds in better condition than when he arrived, in exchange for occasional tribute, and armies to help in his conquests of other worlds. He despises other Whims who thoroughly trash worlds.

Though powerful, Whims can be destroyed by divine beings, or if their physical form is destroyed so abruptly they have no time to reconfigure themselves. This again is an exceedingly rare event.

Aeon eventually banishes a lot of them to an isolated plane of existence after the Solace-Devlon Affair. The rest lose their powers and are left as mortals of the last race they transformed into.
